The Edenvale Marathon is an official Comrades Marathon qualifier.

Rand Road Warriors in conjunction with StaminoGro are proud to present the Edenvale Marathon, formally known as Sarens Edenvale Marathon on Sunday, 19 June 2022.

This event consists of a marathon, half marathon and 5km Fun Run. Marathon qualifying times will be calculated on a mat to mat basis

The proceeds of the 5km Fun Run will be donated to Edenvale Ferals and The Edenvale Care Centre Hospice. Edenvale Ferals is a Non-Profit Organisation, caring for several colonies of cats in Edenvale. Edenvale Ferals cares for the colonies on a daily bases by providing food and/or medical attention if required. The Edenvale Care Centre Hospice is a Non-profit Organisation who cares for terminally patients, many of whom are from the rural areas and very poor communities.



Race Entry

Runners who fail to provide all requested data on the entry form will forfeit the right to winning any awards – in particular runners entering using a manual system must ensure their details are legible and complete.
The overall figure of 2000 runners has been authorized by ASA / CGA for the 2022 event. If we are given authorisation for more entries, we will let the running community know.
Peak Timing will send you a confirmation email confirming your entry straight after registering on the registration site.
In the week before the Edenvale Marathon you will receive a second email with all of the race details and your race number.
If you do not receive the second email contact Race@randroadwarriors.co.za
Do not leave this until the day before the event! We are unable to track if everyone has received their second email. It is your responsibility to contact the race organiser if you have not received it.

Race Rules

This race is held under the rules of IAAF, ASA and CGA. By entering the race each athlete accepts the responsibility to know and abide by these rules

Race Route: The route is the same as the 2020 route (marathon is a double lap).
All marshals, traffic officers and officials’ instructions must be obeyed.
Minimum ages on race day: 42km – 20 years and 21km – 16 year.
No refund of race entry fees.
Walkers and wheelchair athletes are welcome. Wheelchair athletes must make direct contact with the Race Office before the Marathon for specific start instructions. Please email race@randroadwarriors.co.za
No pets allowed.
No earphones, iPods, MP3 players, headphones or other electronic devices may be used during the race other than hearing aids. Wearing earphones may result in disqualification. Runners who are disqualified will not be provided with any medal or race hand-out.

Race Indemnity

Participants in the Edenvale Marathon, Half Marathon, Fun Run and related activities (“the event”) acknowledge that although all precautions have been taken by the organising body there may be dangers inherent in participation in the event. Participants voluntarily assume such risks & waive all claims of whatsoever nature and however arsing in relation to the event against any parties, including but not limited to the organising body, sponsors, advertisers, local authorities, directors, employees and suppliers of these parties and any individual, official, marshal or agent (“parties”). Participants irrevocably indemnify the parties against any liability or claims of any nature whatsoever arising (whether directly or indirectly , whether by negligence, albeit gross and/or from involvement in or passage to or from the event) including but not limited to liability or delay, inconvenience, accident, death injury, illness to their person, or loss or damage to property or costs and expenses sustained, incurred or put to by participants and/or by any minor child under the care or control of participants. Parents or guardians authorising a minors’ participation in the event, hereby consent to such minor, not being capable of waiving his/her rights as stipulated.


This means that runners who are capable of times that could place them on the podium will be seeded at the front of the event, at the start.
In applying for Contenders Status, you will be required to send previous race results to the organisers. The organisers reserve the right to remove any runner who does not prove their ability over the competed distance.
If you meet these requirements and have an official finish in an accurately measured timed race, you will be accepted for Contender Status.
Contenders need to register online.
The following table is the criteria and must be met to be considered as a contender.
The table below shows the times required to be a contender based on
a) Age
b) Gender
c) Distance.
Prizes are only awarded on gun to mat times.
Contenders will be required to adhere 100% of the time to 100% of ASA and IAAF rules. • Contenders qualification times will be accepted from January 2020 to 1 June 2022.
Contenders will be notified by 7 June if they have been accepted as a contender.



Licensed athletes, belonging to a club affiliated to ASA must wear their 2022 ASA license number on their vest with the top branded section visible both front and back with the Edenvale Marathon number displayed on the front of the vest.
Temporary licences must be worn on the back of plain clothing.
Temporary license will be available online and at registration.
The 2022 Temporary Licenses fees are R40 for a 21km and R100 for a 42km.
Foreign athletes must abide by rules as per IAAF and ASA rules.

Timing and Prizes

Peak Timing will be electronically timing the 21km and 42km event.
To ensure that you are accurately recorded in the race results it is important that you do not fold your race number with the electronic timing chip.
Only Contenders are able to win prizes as they will be timed from gun to finish line.
Age Category tags must be worn on the front and back of the vest and be clearly visible. In order to win age category awards. Proof of age must be produced on the day.
All other runners will be allocated times on Mat to Mat basis and this will be used for seeding / qualification in other events.
Start time for the Marathon and 21km is 6:00 for 6:30
Start time for the Fun Run is 7:00
Cut off time is 12:30
Marathon runners must pass the corner of First Avenue and Linksfield Road, (approx. 20.2km) before 9:30 or they will be directed to the finish at the end of the first lap.

Club Gazebos and Vendors

No Ambush advertising or marketing is allowed on the venue site.
Pre-approval is required for all Running Clubs and Food / Clothing Vendor Gazebos. Email the Race Director for approval: race@randroadwarriors.co.za
Gazebos are to be set up on Saturday. No set up on the field will be allowed on Sunday.
Gazebos are to be set up +- 2 meters apart from each other.
Club Gazebos that arrive without authorisation may be moved or refused on the finish field –  There is no appeal on this aspect and the organisers decision is final.


Covid-19 Protocols

Please respect the COVID-19 regulations at the time of the event.
Keep physical contact to a minimum.
The Edenvale Marathon promotes vaccinated runners.
The Edenvale Marathon does not restrict participation of runners but if authorization for more than 2000 runners is given, proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test may be required in accordance with the Government regulations. If this is a requirement the runners will have to produce a negative result.
